Chelsea defender Reece James has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury, he sustained in their match against Liverpool over the weekend.
The Blues won 2-1 against the Reds in the Premier League clash on Saturday.
James played the full 90 minutes, starting the game at right-back before playing centre-back for most of the second half.
“The Chelsea captain sustained an injury playing for his club over the weekend and has been ruled out of England’s October internationals following medical assessments,” an FA statement read on Monday.
James has been replaced by Manchester City midfielder Nico O’Reilly who received his first senior international call-up.
The 20-year-old O’Reilly, who has been capped at junior levels, joined Thomas Tuchel’s squad for a friendly against Wales on Thursday at Wembley, and a World Cup qualifier against Latvia in Riga on October 14.
Tuchel’s squad will play Wales in a friendly at Wembley Stadium on Thursday before travelling to Riga for their World Cup qualifier against Latvia on October 14.
England have a 100 per cent record in Group K — winning all five matches — and have a seven-point cushion over second-placed Albania.
