Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player Jabu Mahlangu is in hospital after a car accident in Benoni.

Mahlangu’s attorney confirmed to the Times Live that the star had been hospitalised in the East Rand.

The attorney, Mabu Marweshe, from a law firm that represents Mahlangu — Marweshe Attorneys — said he could not provide details on Mahlangu’s condition.

He said Mahlangu, 41, is in Far East Rand Hospital in Brakpan, and that the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“We can confirm the accident happened involving our client and he is still in hospital,”Marweshe said.

“As soon as the doctors have given the go-ahead to consult with us we will be able to provide more information.”

Pictures from the scene indicate that the former Kaizer Chiefs fan-favourite was driving a BMW 4 series when the accident happened.

Mahlangu, formerly Pule, played for Kaizer Chiefs 99 times, and won 20 caps for Bafana Bafana.

He is currently an ambassador for SuperSport United, a club he played briefly for in late 2005, as well as a football analyst on pay sports channel SuperSport.
