Everton have signed Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan until the end of the season.
Van de Beek was allowed to leave Old Trafford by interim boss Ralf Rangnick after struggling for game time.
Crystal Palace were also interested in the Dutchman, and there were enquiries from clubs abroad.
However, the 24-year-old has elected to link up with Frank Lampard, who was confirmed as Everton’s new manager earlier on Monday.
Van de Beek has started only four Premier League matches since joining United from Ajax for £35m in 2020, and none this season.
Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has told him he needs regular game time if he is to be considered for the national squad for the World Cup, which begins in November.
Van de Beek will bolster the midfield of Everton’s injury-stricken squad, with Tom Davies, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph all sidelined until March.
Meanwhile Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will have a medical at Barcelona with the Spanish club hopeful a loan move from Arsenal can be completed.
Talks are ongoing, with no deal yet finalised for the Gabon striker, 32.
Barcelona feared the move was dead earlier on transfer deadline day even though Aubameyang had flown to Spain.
Club president Joan Laporta told El Mundo Deportivo: “He has a house in Sitges [near Barcelona] and everyone knows we would like to have him.”
He had also been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.
But Laporta is hoping Aubameyang will join Barcelona as he added: “He is trying to sort out his situation with Arsenal. It’s complicated but we will keep trying.”
Elsewhere Tottenham have signed Juventus players Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, while record signing Tanguy Ndombele has joined Lyon on loan.
Uruguay midfielder Bentancur, 24, joins for an initial £15.9m – which could rise by £5m – on a deal until 2026.
Sweden winger Kulusevski, 21, joins on an 18-month loan for an £8.3m fee with an option to buy for £29.2m.
France midfielder Ndombele returns to Lyon for the rest of the season – three years after leaving to join Spurs.
Spain winger Bryan Gil, 20 – who only joined last July – has joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season.
Argentine midfielder Giovani lo Celso has also joined Villarreal on loan for the rest of the campaign.
Ndombele, 25, joined Tottenham for a club record 60m euros (£53.8m).
Bentancur is a former Aston Villa target and is currently on World Cup qualifying duty with his country.
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has reportedly agreed to leave the Ligue 1 giants when his contract expires at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
