The Gender Equality, Wellness and Leadership(GEWAL) Unit of the Motsepe Foundation together with Athletics South Africa announced the second edition of the Race to Equality, which will be held on 12 March 2022 at the Marks Park Sports Complex at Emmerentia, Johannesburg.
The event is under the banner of the Gender Equality, Wellness and Leadership Unit of the Motsepe Foundation.
“It is estimated that at the current pace it would take Africa 122 years to achieve gender equality,” organisers said in a statement on Friday.
Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, the Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation says ” a marathon not a sprint, is an apt analogy for the movement towards gender equality.”
“We hope with this race we can start building a community that acts as a catalyst to achieve this quicker.”
James Moloi, the President of Athletics South Africa said ” We are happy partners in the fight for gender equality not only in South Africa but everywhere around the world where this remains a mega challenge.”
They expected to attract some of the country’s top runners with a R150,000 prize pot for the 21.1km and 10km races.
