Orlando Pirates have released a statement confirming that defender Paseka Mako is in a stable condition.
Mako was rushed to hospital after colliding with goalkeeper Richard Ofori during their DStv Premiership match against Baroka FC on Tuesday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
As a result of the injury, Mako had to be taken to hospital with an ambulance arriving on the scene. Both teams agreed to stop the game following the incident.
“Following the emergency injury involving defender Paseka Mako in the DStv Premiership clash against Baroka FC last night, Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that the 28 year old is in a stable condition,” said a statement published on Pirates website.
The statement added that CT scans have confirmed that Mako did not sustain a brain haemorrhage or skull fracture. He did, however, sustain a fracture to his face and nose.
The match continued for about one minute afterwards before the referee Masixole Bambiso blew his whistle with both set of players and club staff looking dejected and concerned by what had occurred.
The goalless scoreline sees the Buccaneers (39 points) move into fourth place, while relegation threatened Baroka remain anchored in 16th position on 18 points.
Pirates return to action on Sunday against Tanzania giants Simba in the quarter-final first-leg of the CAF Confederation Cup.
