TS Galaxy Football Club have beefed up their squad by capturing the signature of attacking midfielder Sibusiso “Villa” Vilakazi from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 2013/14 PSL Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season with Bidvest Wits, Vilakazi’s signing is a major acquisition for the club that nearly got relegated to the lower division last season.
Sekhukhune United were among the sides who have expressed interest in the former playmaker of the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
The 32-year-old attacking midfielder becomes Galaxy’s first big signing of the transfer window and second arrival in a span of a few hours as the club announced the signing of Xola Mlambo on Thursday morning.
Vilakazi’s contract with Sundowns expired at the end of June, and the club opted against triggering the option that will see him stay at Chloorkop for the 2022/23 season after lengthy talks.

The former Wits captain struggled for regular game-time at Sundowns and featured 11 times across all competitions last campaign.
He leaves Sundowns with five league titles, the MTN8, and a CAF Super Cup after six years, making 138 appearances, scoring 29 goals, and providing 21 assists.
