Steve Barker has signed a new contract with the Stellenbosch Football Club, keeping him to the club until 2026.
Barker became the club’s first head coach when they aquired the status of Vasco da Gama in the second-tier and led the club to win the league before solidifying their place in the DStv Premiership.
“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce that Steve Barker has signed a new contract with the club keeping him committed to SFC until 2026,” the club statement read on Thursday.
The former AmaTuks and AmaZulu coach has overseen nine games this season, with three wins, four draws and two defeats leaving them six points off league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and in sixth place.
Stellies meanwhile will not be hosting Kaizer Chiefs in the Winelands town again with Sunday’s DStv Premiership clash switched to the Cape Town Stadium following the crowd invasion and vandalism that marred their MTN8 clash earlier in the season.
A large crowd is expected for the league meeting, dictating the move away from Stellenbosch where the club’s home ground proved unable to handle the influx of supporters for their cup tie on August 28.
The league match had been originally scheduled for the Danie Craven Stadium, when the fixtures were first released by the Premier Soccer League, but the club requested a move several weeks ago.
