Only a late equaliser by England striker Harry Kane spared FC Bayern München’s blushes in Berlin after their record 16-match winning start to the season came to an end following a 2-2 draw last Saturday at plucky 1. FC Union Berlin.
Bayern were punished for a slow start in the capital as Union’s Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi twice put the hosts ahead, only for the men from Munich to fight back with a sublime effort by Luis Díaz and a Kane header in added time for the visitors.
Heading into the international break, the draw in Berlin halted Bayern’s winning streak in all competitions at the start of this season.
This was the first time Bayern have dropped points this season, but they are still clear at the top of the table after second-placed RB Leipzig slipped to a 3-1 defeat at TSG Hoffenheim.
Third-placed Borussia Dortmund also dropped points after hosts Hamburger SV poached a late draw with a headed equaliser by Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer in the 97th minute.
Japan winger Ritsu Dōan scored a superb individual goal as Eintracht Frankfurt inflicted a 1-0 home win on visitors 1. FSV Mainz 05, who are second from bottom.
