Maritzburg United Football Club have officially confirmed the appointment of Fadlu Davids as new head coach.
Davids appointment follows the departure of John Maduka.
Maduka and his technical staff of Simon Gopane and Ditheko Mototo were relieved of their duties on Thursday following a string of poor results that saw the Team of Choice drop to the bottom of the table.
The club have now announced the return of Davids, who was already in charge of the club as head coach between March 2017 and December 2018.
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia “Fadlu is one of the youngest, brightest coaches in the game and we are pleased to have been able to bring him back to the Club”.
Davids then moved on to Orlando Pirates in January 2019, serving as assistant coach to Milton Sredojevic, Rulani Mokwena and Josef Zinnbauer, before being named as co-head coach alongside Mandla Ncikazi following Zinnbauer’s departure in 2021/22.
After losing the CAF Confederations Cup final to RS Berkane on penalties and dropping out of the top four in the DStv Premiership in the final three games of the season, Davids opted to leave the Buccaneers and was keen to return to the sidelines as sole head coach.
He will take over a Maritzburg side that sits at the bottom of the DStv Premiership, collecting just two wins in their first 13 league games.
