JMPD officers entered the building and with assistance from the caretaker and a member of the public, who climbed up a street pole from the ground floor, the girls were rescued and removed from the ledge.
Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) officers and a civilian are being hailed as heroes after they rescued two toddlers from a third-story ledge of a Johannesburg building.
According to the JMPD, the officers were on patrol when they came across a group of people at the corners of Bree & End streets who stopped them to assist a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old girl who had climbed out the window on the 3rd floor of a building.

The JMPD said the girls were left alone by their mother while she went to a butcher, and climbed out of an open window during that time.
“They were handed over to their mother on her return.,” said the JMPD in a Twitter thread.

The civilian who assisted in the rescue of the toddlers in Johannesburg building was not named.
The City of Johannesburg’s Safety MMC, David Tembe said, I commend officers for swift action and bravery, for having requested the caretaker to unlock doors for them to reach the little girls, who were shaking and crying on a ledge of a building from which they could easily have fallen and possibly died.”
