The veteran communicator and businessman Phillip Zinikele Mandlenkosi Msibi has been laid to rest in Newcastle Cemetery in Kwazulu/Natal.
Msibi, 68, who was the late National Freedom Party (NFP) leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi’s husband, died early on Monday after short illness.
He was born to Ellie and Zepharia (who passed on). He was born in Ingogo at Mbizaneni area.
Msibi studied at eKuboneni primary school and completed his studies at St Chads High School. He then furthered his tertiary education in the following institutions: eMadadeni College of Education completing a teaching diploma, Damelin College completing a Public Relations Diploma, Wits Univeristy completing an Executive Development Program, Bradford University in UK doing Marketing Resources Planning and Management.
He was the provincial Education spokesperson after leaving the SABC in the ’90s. He was one of the first platoon of journalists in broadcasting, worked as a bulletin writer and television presenter. In his 15 year tenure at SABC he also worked as an Executive Producer.
Msibi then worked at the Department of Education in KwazuluNatal as a spokesperson for education.
He had passion for farming, his last occupation was a farmer, owning two farms in Ingogo area.
Friends and family members came in numbers to pay their last respects to an astute businessman, communicator and a father.
Msibi was passionate about improving the living conditions of people in the surroundings and the poor in general.
Addressing mourners, his children described their father as a strong man who refused to give up and they will continue to carry his legacy.
