The popular musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly-known as Shebeshxt has been denied bail and will spend Chrismas behind bars.
The matter is postponed to 18 February 2026.
Chauke appeared briefly in the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
He is facing three charges – attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and malicious damage to property.
His arrest followed a shooting incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, in which two men were shot. One of the victims remains in a critical condition in hospital.
State upgraded the case to a Schedule 6 offence, a category reserved for the most serious crimes, often involving violence or the use of a firearm. Under Schedule 6, accused persons must demonstrate “exceptional circumstances” before bail can be granted.
Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi has delivered the verdict in the Polokwane magistrate’s court.
The court has found that the accused Shebe Maburna cannot be granted bail the firearm used in the three attempted murder cases has not been found.
Netshiozwi has also said that most of the offences were committed whilst he was out on bail.
“It is the conduct and the personality of the accused that caused the court to invoke the provisions which it has read into record. It is the accused person himself that can do personal introspection into himself to avoid [being] in conflict with the law. He will [then] be able to progress with the career no one can stand on his way.”
Shebeshxt arrest comes after He lost his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile Chuene, in a fatal car accident last year.
The case has drawn widespread attention on social media, with reactions ranging from messages of support to serious concern over the gravity of the allegations.
