Gauteng police have intercepted and arrested a gang of 12 men who were allegedly en route to commit a business robbery in Benoni in Ekurhuleni, on Monday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo says authorities were alerted about the planned robbery on Monday.
The joint team from SAPS Tactical Response Team Gauteng Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit, among others, followed the group from Johannesburg to Benoni.
He said the armed robbers travelled in three vehicles fitted with false number plates.
Authorities seized three unlicensed firearms with twenty-three live rounds. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, said police would be on high alert to protect residents and properties throughout the festive season.
