At least five people died early Friday morning 23 December 2022 when two minibus taxis collided head-on in the Free State on the N6.
According to the Free State Provincial Emergency Medical Services’ (EMS) Sipho Towa, six people are critically injured, two moderate and three sustained minor injuries. Towa says both drivers of the minibus taxis are dead, including three passengers. He adds that the passengers were from Gauteng on their way to the Eastern Cape.
“At about 04:25 this morning, emergency services responded to a call regarding a head-on collision, involving two taxis. Patients were transported to various hospitals in Bloemfontein. The north-bound lane is closed, traffic is moving past the scene via controlled flow,” Towa further added.
Two more bodies were found on the scene after officials performed the necessary procedures to take out trapped bodies inside the wreckage.
Over the past weekend, on 17 December 2022, three people were also killed whilst four others sustained varying injuries during an accident between a bus and bakkie on the N1 road in the Free State.
The three deceased were declared dead on the scene.
According to Towa, the accident occurred on the N1, about 20km from Ventersburg to Winburg, on Friday 16 December 2022.
These accidents follow after another recent bus and truck accident on the N8 near Botshabelo, outside Bloemfontein. This accident claimed the lives of nine people and left scores injured.
