Four family members have been brutally murdered by armed men during a house robbery at Dweshula area, in Port Shepstone, Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) on New Years Eve.
According to SA Police Services (SAPS) in KZN, three armed men and one suspect with a knife forced their way into the home, demanding money. When told there was none, they opened fire.
A woman who survived told police that her fiancé was shot first, after which the suspects forced her to lead them to where other family members were sleeping.
The victims included a mother and her two daughters, aged between 31 and 67. After the attack, the suspects fled on foot, taking two cellphones.
Police have opened four counts of murder and are launched a manhunt for the suspects. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thami Ntuli, as well as SAPS Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi together conducted a safer festive season awareness campaign across the busy Durban Beaches.
The campaign is also joined by other law enforcement departments such as Durban Metro Police, Local Government Authorities, Civil Society formations, and the Community Policing Forum.
