Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 4-0 defeat against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League Group C.

Chiefs made two changes from their goalless draw against Horoya, as Njabulo Blom and Lebogang Manyama started ahead of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Bernard Parker.

Wydad got off to the perfect start after Mohammed Ounajem got the opening goal in the seventh minute with a strike from six yards after he was picked out by Muaid Ellafi.

With Amakhosi looking to get back into the game, Samir Nurkovic had a shot inside the box saved by shot-stopper Ahmed Tagnaouti after 15 minutes.

However Wydad made it two a minute before the interval through a smart close-range header from Ayoub El Kaabi after the Amakhosi once again failed to clear their lines.

Hunt’s men were off to a slow start in the second half, but sprung to life a little later with a snap-shot from a promising area by Kearyn Baccus but goalkeeper Ahmed Tangouti saved.

A double substitution from Chiefs followed in the latter minutes, with Philani Zulu in for Manyama and Willard Katsande removed for Ngcobo.

Wydad added a third two minutes before time after Simon Msuva lobbed over goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune following poor defensive work.

Chiefs were down to with ten players as Ramahlwe Mphahlele saw red in stoppage time after giving away a penalty through a handball, with Yahya Jabrane tucked away to end the visitors misery.

The Soweto giants next match is also in the Champions League – they host Angolan side Petro de Luanda at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday. Petro de Luanda have lost their opening two Group C fixtures.

The result extended Chiefs’ winless run to eight matches across all competitions. In stark contrast, Wydad have now won seven matches on the trot.
