Kaizer Chiefs registered their first victory in the CAF Champions League group stages with a 2-0 win over Petro de Luanda.
With Khama Billiat and Dumisani Zuma still missing through injury and Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic added to the casualty list this week, it was Lebogang Manyama who started up front as a striker, supported by Lazarous Kambole and Happy Mashiane on the wings.
The opening stages of the game saw Chiefs looking comfortable in possession, without doing much to trouble the opposition defence.
But while Chiefs were struggling to create chances from open play, they proved to be deadly at set play as Erick Mathoho emphatically headed in from an Nkosingiphile Ncgobo corner on the half hour mark to put the Soweto side ahead.
The hosts continued where they left off coming after the break, with Daniel Cardoso going very close to doubling the lead in the 62nd minute with a header that crashed against the upright.
Mashiane wrapped up the win for Amakhosi 11 minutes before time with a low strike into the bottom corner after skipping past a couple challenges.
That victory sees Chiefs sit third in the group with four points, level second-placed Horoya who face leaders Wydad Casablanca later in the evening.
Petro de Luanda are out of the race for a quarter-final place having lost all three of their matches to date.
