PSL defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have completed the signing of Colombian forward Brayan Leon, the club confirmed on Monday.
Leon joins Sundowns for a reported fee of $3.5 million, which translates to over R57 million at the current exchange rate.
“I chose Sundowns because of a new challenge and I think this is the best team, most successful. It’s always great to have these new challenges and become a champion here,” he told the Sundowns media team.
“I hope to return the favour and I’ve already mentioned to Sundowns that I’m here to win titles and make it bigger than it already is.”
The arrival of the Colombian forward comes against a backdrop marked by the departure of Lucas Ribeiro Costa, the prolonged absence of Themba Zwane.
León, 25, came through the ranks at Deportivo Pereira, the club where he made his professional debut and achieved one of the most significant milestones of his career: winning the 2022 Liga BetPlay Clausura title for the first time for the team.
By contrast, León’s career statistics paint a different picture. Across his professional career, the Colombian has scored 48 goals in 217 matches, averaging around 0.22 goals per game — roughly half of Ribeiro’s output at Sundowns.
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy on Monday bid farewell to centre-back Khulumani Ndamane, who has been seen at Sundowns’ camp in Polokwane. Ndamane, 21, was a product of the Kaizer Chiefs youth structures before leaving for Galaxy in July 2024.
