Pretty Nozipho Makukule has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for South African National Roads Agency (Sanral), effective from 1 February 2026.
The position has been vacant since July 2024, following the resignation of Inge Mulder.
Sanral said Makukule “has more than 25 years of experience in senior and executive financial leadership roles within public sector institutions”.
Makukule is former CFO of South African National Parks (SANParks).
She is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable and Green Finance from the National University of Singapore, as well as an MBA.
She is also an Associate Chartered Management Accountant [ACMA] and Chartered Global Management Accountant [CGMA)], according to Sanral.
The business sector, government and other state-owned enterprises that deal with Sanral will be hoping Makukule’s appointment brings stability to the agency that has been in the spotlight over recent years, especially around its handling of tenders.
Meanwhile a decision to adopt and retrospectively apply a new policy on rest and service facilities on national roads by Sanral has been declared unlawful and of no force and effect by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).
The SCA referred the matter to Sanral for reconsideration and compliance with the Sanral Act.
Costs were ordered against Sanral.
The SCA issued these orders to an appeal lodged by Casper Kasselman, Gertruida Kasselman, BDV Administration of States (Pty) Ltd and Loxodonta (Pty) Ltd, collectively known as the Trust.
