Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have been hit with misconduct charges following their heated confrontation in their FA Cup third-round encounter.
An official statement from FA reads as follows: “Tottenham Hotspur FC and Aston Villa FC have been charged with misconduct following their FA Cup match on Saturday 10 January.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or officials did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way after the final whistle. Aston Villa FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC have until Friday 16 January to provide a response.”
Goals from Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers put Villa into a 2-0 lead at half-time. Although Wilson Odobert replied for Spurs after the break, Thomas Frank’s side were unable to avoid an early exit.
Villa, who sit third in the Premier League, will host fellow top-flight side Newcastle United in round four.
Meanwhile Tottenham have completed the signing of England midfielder Conor Gallagher for a fee of £34m from Atletico Madrid.
“I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club, “Gallagher said.
“I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the Club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I’m ready to get on the pitch.
“I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.
Gallagher has 22 caps for England but has played only once under current boss Thomas Tuchel, featuring for 59 minutes in a 3-1 friendly defeat by Senegal.
Tottenham are 14th in the table on 27 points after 21 games and have had a run of poor form in which they have won just one of their last six league matches.
