Chiefs begin life after Gavin Hunt when they host Golden Arrows.

Kaizer Chiefs would be looking to ease a rough patch of form when they host Golden Arrows in Wednesday’s Premier Soccer League clash at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs are struggling to qualify for next season’s MTN8 after a dismal league campaign, which is in stark contrast to their appearance in the Caf Champions League semifinals, and trail eighth-placed TS Galaxy by five points.

It is highly unlikely they can overhaul their rivals, especially with a number of other clubs just above them, but midfielder Williard Katsande says they must keep trying to build momentum with their Champions League semifinal against Wydad Casablanca to come this month.

“We just want to go and apply ourselves against Golden Arrows. We need to go and redeem ourselves as there is a lot still to play for,” Katsande told his club’s website.

“We want to do well and keep the momentum going into the Champions League. All we want to do is take it one game at a time, try to be more positive, grind the result and try to enjoy our game.

“The glamour boys are about enjoying the game. The more you enjoy, the more you will get the result. It’s about going out, applying ourselves and getting the result.

“We know Arrows have had a good season but at the same time, we are playing at home. When we play at home against Arrows, we generally get a positive result and I’m confident that history is going to work in our favour come Wednesday.”

Golden Arrows are in third place and seeking to qualify for Caf club competitions for the first time in their history, which gives them a huge incentive going into the game.

“What makes them look good is continuity because they have had this group of players for some time now. They believe in themselves, that’s why they are where they are. They also have young and exciting players who are hungry to prove themselves in the league.

“Overall, we give them the respect they deserve. At the end of the day, they are coming to play Kaizer Chiefs. No matter the situation and where we are at the moment, we remain a big team – a team that attracts a huge crowd. We just need to close our last game playing at home in style.

“To be honest, this is my first time being in this position at this time of the season. It is not a good position to be in as a Kaizer Chiefs player. Representing the brand, you know what is required to be at Kaizer Chiefs.

“My word going out to all Amakhosi faithful is that the team will be back where it belongs and we promise to finish the season on a high. We promise to do well in the Champions League, which is very important for now. We need everyone to look at this team in a positive way.”
