Dali Tambo, son of African National Congress (ANC) stalwarts Adelaide and Oliver Tambo, has been admitted to the hospital following a mild heart attack.
In a brief statement, his PR team says Tambo is receiving medical care and is responding well to treatment.
The statement added that health episode was linked to stress induced hypertension. This is a condition that doctors are managing closely as part of his recovery.
Tambo is best known for hosting the upmarket talk show People of the South, from 1994-2002 and again from 2012-2013.
Having spent 30 years in exile, Dali acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and Political Science at the University of Paris. He worked in film and television in the United Kingdom, on productions such as Richard Attenborough’s Cry Freedom.
Upon his return to South Africa in 1990, Dali launched Southern Streams Productions, with his first talk show on M-Net, called Night Moves, revolutionizing the genre.
He then moved to the SABC, with his highly successful People of the South, which aired for an uninterrupted eight-and-a-half years.
After the cancellation of the show he focused on business opportunities and the Heritage and Tourism industries, specifically within Southern Africa and South Africa.
