Orlando Pirates secured a 2–0 victory over AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The result moved Pirates back to the top of the table and kept them on course for a first league title in 14 years.
In the 16th minute, teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng rose in the centre of the box to head home a pinpoint cross from Tshepang Moremi, silencing the Durban crowd.
Pirates continued to dominate the match, piling on the pressure on Usuthu; however, the first half ended with Pirates leading by a single goal.
The Buccaneers made tactical changes in the final 30 minutes, bringing on Kamogelo Sebelebele and Masindi Nemtajela in place of Deano van Rooyen and Thalente Mbatha.
AmaZulu had chances of their own and nearly scored, but Sipho Chaine pulled off a great save late in the match.
Pirates secured a second goal late in the game through an own goal from Darren Johnson to beat AmaZulu 2-0.
Pirates remain in Durban for their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against TTM on Saturday, which will also be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Their next league fixture is at home against Marumo Gallants on February 14. AmaZulu, meanwhile, travel to Polokwane City for their Nedbank Cup tie next Tuesday, before returning to league action with another major test when they host Mamelodi Sundowns on February 24.
