Former Kaizer Chiefs player Willard Katsande says he is looking forward to a fresh challenge after he started training with DStv Premiership newly promoted Sekhukhune United.
The 35-year-old defensive midfielder was among the new signings that were unveiled by the ambitious DStv Premiership upstarts on Friday.
Katsande, who spent a decade at Chiefs since joining from Ajax Cape Town in 2011, relished the feeling of starting out in a new environment.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to play in a different environment,” Katsande said at his unveiling.
“I’m not just coming here to make up the numbers, I’m here to compete, and the team has shown lots of support to me.
“So all I want to do is repay them by giving 100% commitment. What I’d like to say to the fans is just to continue supporting the team.
Katsande believes the club has assembled a competitive squad that will hold their own in the elite league.
“We have got exciting talent, so it’s going to be a good mix. We are going to find a good balance [between young and experienced players] and make the supporters happy.
“We are going to be competitive. Obviously, we want to work towards achieving a common goal for the team. I promise I’ll give my all to repay the chair [Simon Malatji], who took the opportunity to bring me here.”
Other signings are Justice Chabalala – on loan from Orlando Pirates – Baroka FC defender Cheslyn Jampies, Blessing Sarupinda from Caps United in Zimbabwe and goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata from Zesco United in Zambia.
Despite being crowned GladAfrica Championship winners last season, Sekhukhune are tipped to continue spending and surpass the 20-player mark in new additions.
Sekhukhune will open their Premiership campaign against Chippa United on August 21 at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.
