Young swimmers Lumka Zamisa and Letlotlo Ramphele (both 14) emerged as two of the finest at the Provincial Swimming Championships held at Potchefstroom.
Zamisa earned seven gold medals and one silver, while Ramphele walked home with three golds.
Zamisa has been part of Team North West for the last three consecutive years while Ramphele still hopes to make it into the Provincial team. They both dream of being part of Team South Africa.
Laerskool Generaal Hendrik Schoeman swimmers from Hartebeespoort were the overall winning school.
The target groups were mainstream (primary and secondary schools) and Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) between ages 12 – 18 from around the North West.
The event was supported by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) and the Provincial Sports Confederation.
The athletes were not deterred by the rainy weather, diving into the pool and swirling their way through, with the hope of making it into the provincial team.
The North West University High Performance Unit will be preparing Team North West for the National Swimming Championships to be held in Cape Town from April 23 – 27.
