Raul García struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Osasuna stunned LaLiga leaders Real Madrid 2-1 at Estadio El Sadar on Saturday, to give Barcelona a chance to go top.
Osasuna went in front in the 34th minute after a VAR review showed keeper Thibaut Courtois had stood on Ante Budimir’s foot. The referee overturned an initial booking for simulation and Budimir calmly converted the spot-kick.
Madrid levelled when Federico Valverde surged down the left and crossed low for Vinicius Jr. to slide home from close range in the 73rd minute.
But as the visitors pressed in added time, substitute Dani Ceballos lost possession and Raul Moro released Garcia, who beat Raul Asencio before shooting into the top corner to seal a famous win at Pamplona’s El Sadar stadium.
Osasuna’s first league victory against Real since 2011 moves the Pamplona club up to ninth in the table.
Madrid remain two points clear of Barcelona having played one game more. Hansi Flick’s side would go top with a home win against Levante on Sunday.
“We lacked punch, teeth and speed up front. We have a big margin to improve and a long road ahead of us, starting on Wednesday in the Champions League against Benfica,” Real manager Alvaro Arbeloa told reporters.
