Kaizer Chiefs gave chairman Kaizer Motaung a great birthday gift after thumping Chippa United 4-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.
Having established the club in 1970, at the age of 26, Motaung became one of the prominent head honchos in local football.
Khama Billiat set up Keagan Dolly for a first-half double and the latter returned the favour for a brilliant third, before Lazalous Kambole scored a rare goal, as Chiefs climbed up to eighth spot on the 2021-22 league standings.
Chippa looked a side determined to prove a point in the opening stages, Thokozani Sekotlong capitalised from some poor Chiefs defending but he spurned a one on one opportunity, dragging his shot wide.
Chiefs secured the lead on 12 minutes after Khama Billiat picked up a loose ball down the left-side to feed Keagan Dolly for a first-time finish from a tight angle in the area.
Bernard Parker then went close with a curling shot in the 25th minute before Dolly completed his brace six minutes later. The Chiefs winger beat the offside trap and dazzled Siphesihle Mkhize before placing the ball past Rashid Watenga in the Chilli Boys goal.
Sekotlong almost pulled a goal back for the visitors just short of the hour mark after bursting onto a long ball forward but Daniel Akpeyi stood tall to make a good save.
The scorer then turned provider at the other end of the field as Dolly slipped the ball into Billiat’s path in the 70th minute of the match. The Zimbabwean proved his class with a stunning finish into the far corner.
Kambole made it four late on with only his second goal for Amakhosi. Dolly was heavily involved once more to cap a brilliant individual performance for the Soweto giants.
Meanwhile SuperSport United maintained their unbeaten start to the 2021-22 DStv Premiership season by securing a 2-0 win over Baroka FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Ghampani Lungu’s brace inspired Matsatsantsa to a win which saw the Tshwane giants remain second on the league standings, but they are now just a point behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, while Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele slipped down to 10th place.
Elsewhere Sekhukhune United registered their first home win in the DStv Premiership by beating Cape Town City 1-0 at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday.
