Roma’s slump continued with a 3-2 Serie A defeat by relegation battling Venezia,on Sunday, as the hosts recovered from surrendering the lead before halftime to launch a sensational second half fightback.
Jose Mourinho’s side have one win in their last seven games in all competitions and have dropped out of the top four after picking up four points from their last five league games.
Mattia Caldara put the hosts in front in the third minute, before goals from Eldor Shomurodov and Tammy Abraham put Roma ahead at the break.
Mattia Aramu’s penalty levelled the scores with David Okereke scoring the winner in the 74th minute.
Roma have now lost four of their last seven matches, a run which includes a 6-1 defeat to Norweigen side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League.
Venezia’s victory was just their third of the campaign, and it was the first time they’ve scored more than two goals in a game this season.
Roma are fifth with 19 points, three points behind Atalanta in fourth, but will slide to sixth if their capital rivals Lazio win at home to second-bottom Salernitana later on Sunday.
Meanwhile Serie A strugglers Genoa have appointed former Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko as their manager on a deal until 2024.
Shevchenko led Ukraine to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, where they were beaten 4-0 by England in Rome, but left his role in August.
Genoa are currently 18th in Serie A after 12 games, having picked up one win all season.
Shevchenko, who retired from playing in 2012, is Ukraine’s all-time record goalscorer with 48 goals in 111 games.
He began his playing career at Dynamo Kiev before joining AC Milan in 1999, where he won five major trophies including the Serie A title and Champions League, as well as Ballon d’Or in 2004.
