Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has had a heated argument with a reporter following the Reds’ dramatic victory over Ghazl El-Mahalla on Monday.
After finding themselves 2-0 up after 50 minutes at El-Mahalla, the hosts produced a brilliant comeback to level the scoreline in the 94th minute.
However, with only a few moments left on the clock, Al Ahly were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box, which was converted by Ali Maaloul for Pitso’s men to main their 100% win record.
The win was also Al Ahly’s first at El-Mahalla in a completed season since 2008, with the Reds suffering a defeat last time they visited the stadium last season.
Pitso said: “Ghazl El-Mahalla is a strong team and are better than last season and we must respect it.
“Their stadium is very difficult and the grass is not in the best condition, but we do not complain about that because they also play in the same stadium.
“It is not easy for any team to come to Mahalla and play, and we managed to win and scored three goals,” he added.
While the press conference was going smoothly, Mosimane became livid after getting asked why he brought on Luís Miquissone, who won the free-kick that won Al Ahly the game, and not Amar Hamdi?
Mosimane responded to the question furiously saying: “Do you mean that Ammar should participate and Miquissone or Abdelkader not? Who won the free kick from which we scored the winning goal? Who is the player whose winning goal came from his side?
Miquissone is good at playing on the wing and Ammar is not good at that.
“Miquissone is a player at Al Ahly and has the same chances as Ahmed Abdelkader and El-Shahat to participate, and I will replace any player, as Afsha, Percy Tau, and Mohamed Sherif. We do not have a star for the team,”Pitso concluded.
Meanwhile Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir advised Mosimane to remain calm with the media after his heated argument following Ghazl El-Mahalla game.
Shobeir then addressed the incident, advising Pitso to ignore the questions he doesn’t think are worthy of an answer without getting angry.
“I didn’t like to see Mosimane getting angry yesterday. I think he should have answered the way he sees fit and moved on,” Shobeir said.
“Mosimane’s anger in press conferences is not something I think is right, I have always praised his calm attitude. He should take the press conferences the way he prefers, he can choose which questions to answer and which to ignore.”
