Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has suspended Deputy Police Chief Umashi Dhlamini following allegations levelled against him at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Dhlamini is responsible for support and administration services.
Evidence at the commission shows suspended MMC Kholofelo Morodi may have tried to subvert the recruitment process of new metro police officers by attempting to squeeze her preferred candidates through the back door.
It emerged that Morodi sent Gauteng cop sergeant Fannie Nkosi documents containing the list of names of people who had applied to become TMPD officers.
Nkosi who has been testifying at the commission, forwarded the list to the Dhlamini. Nkosi has emerged as the go-to middleman in Tshwane.
Some of the allegations relate to a 2024 tender issued by the TMPD, which sought private security firms to guard the City’s critical infrastructure.
Following the allegations, Dhlamini requested to be placed on suspension with immediate effect.
In a statement, the TMPD says “its Commissioner Yolande Faro has considered Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini’s request and duly approved it. His suspension took effect on Friday, 20 March 2026.
“The suspension is part of a standard risk-management measure to safeguard the integrity of the investigative process. It does not constitute a disciplinary sanction or imply any finding of guilt,” an official statement read.
One of the key politicians mentioned at the Commission was deputy mayor, Eugene Modise, from the ANC, although no details have been provided over his involvement.
