Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Orbit College in a game that was moved to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday afternoon.
It is a third league win in a row for Chiefs, who are now well in the hunt for CAF Interclub football next season.
Having posted three consecutive league wins, they are now behind second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have 12 points more than them.
Chiefs started the game well and did extremely everything in their bid to get an early strike.
However, it was the relegation-threatened Orbit who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute. The Soweto giants conceded a free-kick in a dangerous zone, giving Lebohang Lesako an opportunity to play it in.
Bruce Bvuma could have done better in keeping out Mbulelo Wagaba’s effort but he was beaten in his near post.
With three minutes to the break, Orbit College failed to clear the ball in their red zone, allowing Bradley Cross to find Wandile Duba, who did well to guide the ball home and make it 1-1.
Chiefs responded with a double substitution in their quest to wrestle control as Flavio da Silva came on for Pule Mmodi while Siphesihle Ndlovu replaced Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in midfield.
On the 68 minute, Mfundo Shabalala made amends, providing a composed finish to an excellent passing move from the visitors down the right flank, which involved a pull-back from Thabiso Monyane and an intelligent dummy from Duba.
And in the 78th minute, Chiefs effectively ended the game as a contest when they went 3-1 up: substitutes Da Silva and Ndlovu combined slickly, with the latter latching onto the former’s flick and slotting home a low drive from the edge of the box.
