SA Police Services (SAPS) Organised Crime Unit officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s bail application has failed in the Pretoria North Magistrates court.
Fullview reported yesterday that Nkosi will appear in court on Tuesday, 07 April 2026 following his arrest.
However, the police refused to confirm his arrest after they raided his house in Pretoria on Thursday, 02 April 2026.
The police task force team found 490 rounds of illegal ammunition and several dockets under investigation from different police stations.
He is facing charges of being in possession of unlicensed ammunition, theft, defeating the ends of justice, and failure to properly secure firearms and ammunition in terms of the Firearms Control Act.
During the proceedings, Magistrate Rene Venter denied the media permission to broadcast proceedings.
Nkosi’s legal team led by Sizo Dlali opposed media to film proceedings. Magistrate says the media’s applications were late and permission will not be granted.
The state prosecutor told the court that Nkosi was arrested the day before the Easter long weekend and the media could only bring its application on Tuesday morning because Monday, 06 April 2026 was a public holiday however Venter said while the public interest must be considered, the accused’s rights must also be considered.
Dlali argued that the same officers that raided Nkosi’s home are the same officers who are part of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and now they call themselves a national task team.
The state clarified that Nkosi was arrested by the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry task team which has been established flowing from the evidence coming from it. The state insisted it needed time to verify bail information before Nkosi can make a formal application.
Nkosi was already suspended due to prior allegations before Madlanga Commission that he acted as an intermediary between suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and alleged figures linked to crime cartels.
The prosecution also indicated that they still need to examine the case dockets found in his possession and complete testing on explosives seized during the operation.
Magistrate Venter granted the state postponement to Monday,13 April 2026, for further investigation and formal bail application. Nkosi will remain in police custody until next court appearance.
Meanwhile Captain Johannes Janse van Rensburg, accused of defrauding Protection Security Services, made his first appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
He’s accused of siphoning off millions by manipulating the system and disguising transactions as travel expenses. Van Rensburg was released on R50 000 bail.
