Mamelodi Sundowns maintained top spot in the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 win over Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Katlego Tsiki Ntshabeleng’s 10th-minute strike kept Miguel Cardoso’s side at the top of the table as they maintained their two-point lead over Orlando Pirates, who thumped Golden Arrows 5-0.

It was a first league goal from the 28-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from FC Dallas in the MLS.

Aubrey Modiba was close to increase the lead with a first-time shot that forced goalkeeper Darren Keet into a save following a free-kick in the 24th minute and Ntshabeleng sent a well-struck volley over the crossbar on 37 minutes.

The chances continued to come, with Tashreeq Matthews cutting inside from the right and flashing a shot wide in the 52nd minute before Brayan Leon steered a header over the target from Khuliso Mudau’s cross on the hour mark.

Sundowns remained in control albeit with a narrow advantage and in the end claimed yet another victory to maintain top spot.

Meanwhile Chippa United returned to winning form in the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Siwelele FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Tuesday evening.

Elsewhere Magesi FC gained much-needed points during a clinical 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the Seshego Stadium also on Tuesday night.
