Sekhukhune United kept their hopes to finish in the top three alive after beating Magesi 1-0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.
Babina Noko remained fifth on the log with 38 points behind Amazulu, who lead them by one point following their 1-1 draw earlier to Siwelele FC.
Magesi remained rock-bottom of the log with 17 points, one behind Marumo Gallants and Orbit College, with the two teams set to meet in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
The visitors created decent chances and threatened to break the deadlock inside the opening 15 minutes when Samuel Darpoh forced goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner into a save after being teed up by Khonadzeo Muvhango.
Leaner was called into action again to deny Kgomotso Mosadi with a fine save after the midfielder got his header on target from a cross on the right.
The hosts made a bright start to the second half, and Vuyo Letlapa directed his header just wide of the goal from Keletso Makgalwa’s cross.
Sekhukhune continued their dominance as Magesi failed to clear a corner in the dying minutes of the match, allowing Brighton Ndlovu to head home the winner.
Meanwhile the KwaZulu-Natal derby saw Golden Arrows secure a hard fought 1-0 victory against Durban City at King Zwelithini Stadium.
