Mamelodi Sundowns are back at the top of the log standings following a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The narrow win boosted their chances of lifting the league title for the ninth time in a row.
Marcelo Allende continued with his scoring habit from the midfield when he broke the deadlock on 62 minutes, with Lebo Mothiba being the provider barely a minute on the pitch after coming on for Peter Shalulile.
However, Mothiba turned villain 12 minutes later when his penalty kick was saved by Polokwane City goalkeeper Lindokuhle Mathebula as Sundowns missed a chance to extend their lead.
With this result, Sundowns climb up the log standings with 61 points after 26 matches. The Chloorkop-based outfit is now two points ahead of the second-placed Pirates.
Sundowns and PLK City are set for a quick turnaround as they will meet again at Lofrus Versveld Stadium in Tshwane on Sunday.
Meanwhile Siwelele FC stunned a sloppy Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night, to boost their top-eight aspirations.
The result move Siwelele FC to ninth position on the log with 32 points, while Chiefs remained in third with 47 points from 26 games, with only four matches left.
