South African Communist Party General Secretary Blade Nzmande is to deliver the keynote address at the SACP Rally that marks 100 years of existence.
Nzimande has warned against the incitement of civil war, as often chaotic scenes played out in Nkandla this week.
He also called on law enforcement agencies to investigate and bring to book those who fired gunshots in the “anarchy” outside former president Jacob Zuma’s home.
Without mentioning Nkandla or Zuma directly, Nzimande also called on “the real” Umkhonto we Sizwe military veterans to distance themselves from the use of their association’s name in what he called “counter-revolutionary conduct”.
Nzimande was addressing a virtual rally to launch the SA Communist Party’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
He reiterated the SACP’s support for the state capture commission, saying that once the commission has concluded its work, state law enforcement, including prosecution authorities, should follow up on the report.
“Those who were responsible or complicit in the corruption investigated by the commission must be held to account. We therefore expect consequence management, including through prosecution and asset forfeiture,” he said.
Meanwhile African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has challenged the South African Communist Party (SACP) to further advance the agenda of socialism in South Africa.
Ramaphosa said it is the role played by ANC allies like the SACP that saw the country emerge from the oppression of the country’s citizens under the Apartheid government.
He says the road is still long, ahead and it will need a united front within the tripartite alliance in order to alleviate all social ills in the country.
“The SACP has throughout its history remained a dependable ally, not only of our liberation movement but of the oppressed and exploited masses of South Africans. It has been at the forefront of the struggle against racism and capitalist exploitation. Understanding the tough relationships between race and class in South Africa.”
