The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has dismissed reports that it has a warrant of arrest against Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
This follows social media reports that IDAC has prepared a J50 arrest warrant for Mkhwanazi.
IDAC said in a statement on Sunday, 17 May 2026, it had noted with concern the rumours and enquiries claiming it had warrant of arrest for Mkhwanazi.
“This information is false and dismissed with the contempt it deserves.”
“These rumours are clearly started to disrupt and distract the work of IDAC, as well as responsibilities that Gen Mkhwanazi is discharging in the fight against crime,” said IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
He called for vigilant use of social media.
“Members of society are urged to be vigilant against false information circulated in social media platforms, aimed at destabilising and discrediting law enforcement in the country.”
Mkhwanazi is currently juggling dual roles as the Provincial Police Commissioner and the leader of a newly established national crime-fighting project targeting sophisticated crime syndicates.
In April 2026, National Commissioner Fannie Masemola tasked Mkhwanazi with an expanded oversight and coordination role to combat organized crime nationwide.
His appointment follows explosive allegations he made in July 6, 2025, when he accused senior police officials, as well as members of the executive and judiciary, of colluding with organised crime networks.
