Parliament has summoned National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi and Justice Minister Ronald Lamola to appear before it on Wednesday.
This follows Head of NPA’s Investigating Directorate Hermione Cronje’s resignation three years before her term was due to end.
Chairperson of the portfolio committee on justice and correctional services Bulelani Magwanishe confirmed on Friday that the meeting has been scheduled.
Magwanishe said this was an important meeting for members of the justice committee to get clarification from Batohi and Lamola.
He said MPs were concerned about the latest developments in the NPA.
“We are concerned if there are plans in place to ensure there is no disruption and what necessitated the resignation. It will be important as Parliament, as institutions accounting to us, we are assured that there is no disruption,”said Magwanishe.
He said they met with the NPA last week where they also discussed the issue of the prosecution of apartheid-era crimes.
Magwanishe said they were concerned about the slow pace of the prosecution of these cases and that the people who are implicated are old.
