Live from SunBet Arena, Pretoria: Today’s Round of 16 at the Premier Padel Pretoria P1 tightened the field further, with the established names progressing largely as expected and the top seeds asserting control on Centre Court and the outer courts.
In the men’s draw, Galán and Chingotto continued their strong run, defeating Garrido and Bergamini 6-3, 7-5. Lebrón and Augsburger also advanced, overcoming Bautista and Jofre 7-6, 6-3. Leal and Guerrero recovered from a set down to beat García Rodrigo and Aguirre 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Ruiz Granados and García edged Navarro and Di Nenno 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that stretched past two hours.
Elsewhere, Arroyo and Jiménez Casas moved through comfortably against Goenaga and Castaño 6-2, 6-4. Esbri and Gutiérrez dismissed Montiel Caruso and Abbate 6-1, 6-4, and Tello and Arce Simo eliminated González and Campagnolo 6-4, 6-3. On Centre Court, the world number ones, Tapia and Coello, were locked in a competitive battle with Alonso and Goñi Lacabe as the evening session unfolded.
The pattern remains clear. Experience and ranking continue to dictate progress. Matches that go the distance are still the exception, and the gulf between the tour’s leading pairs and the rest is being reinforced with every round.
Attention now shifts to Friday’s order of play.
Centre Court opens at 10:00 AM with Fernández Sánchez and Calvo facing Barrera de la Fuente and Montes Cabruja. That is followed by Guinart España and Alonso de Villa against González Fernández and Josemaría Martín, then Triay Pons and Brea Senesi versus Icardo Alcorisa and Jensen.
Centre Court continues with Esbri and Gutiérrez against García and Ruiz Granados, followed by Tello and Arce Simo versus Galán and Chingotto.
The evening session, not before 5:00 PM, features Leal and Guerrero against Augsburger and Lebrón, before the headline clash of Tapia and Coello against Jiménez Casas and Arroyo.
On Court 2 from 12:00 PM, Salazar Bengoechea and Osoro Ulrich meet Araújo and Ortega Gallego.
