Orlando Pirates produced a clinical second-half performance to beat Chippa United 3-0 in Match Round 3 of the Betway Premiership at the Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Pirates battled to break down a resilient Chippa. Oswin Appollis had a couple of long-range efforts that were comfortably kept out by Stanley Nwabali in the Chilli Boyz goal.

A Deon Hotto free kick was also tipped over by Nwabali, but generally Pirates were too slow in their build up play.

Chippa had a good chance to take the lead four minutes before the break. Imraan Jones whipped in a free kick that flew across the area and the ball fell for Goodman Mosele, who hammered his effort just wide.

The visitors were prolific and clinical after the halftime break which saw Ghampani Lungu scoring his second goal of the season on the hour mark, before the Man of the Match Lebone Seema headed home four minutes later to make it 2-0 to Pirates.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou then made several attacking changes, including introducing Daniel Msendami.

The Zimbabwe international repaid the Moroccan-French tactician’s faith by scoring the third goal in the 88th minute — his first for the Buccaneers — after pouncing on a mistake to seal Pirates’ 3-0 win.

Meanwhile TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows brought the curtain down on the weekend’s Betway Premiership action by playing out a 0-0 draw at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Premiership continues with a catch-up match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants on Wednesday 19 August, before the next full round the following midweek of 25-26 August.
