SA Police Services (SAPS) have confirmed the discovery of a woman’s body in Vusimusi section, Tembisa South, East of Johannesburg on Saturday, 26 Septermber 2026.
The latest discovery brings the number of women’s bodies to 10.
SAPS Gauteng spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed that a woman’s body was discovered in Tembisa South, in the Vusimusi section, on the morning of Saturday, September 26.
“At this stage, we can only confirm the discovery of the body. Crime scene management and all the necessary role players are currently on the scene. Further information will be provided as soon as preliminary investigations have been conducted,” said Muridili.
The discovery of the bodies has sparked vigils, protests and solidarity runs across South Africa, with hundreds of people gathering from Kempton Park to Cape Town to honour the victims and call for stronger action to protect women.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that government will, in a few days, address the nation on the steps it is taking to confront gender-based violence (GBV), and update South Africans on the investigation into the killings of women.
Ramaphosa noted that freedom is not equally experienced by people living in safe communities and those living with the fear of crime, or by young people with access to education and opportunities and those whose circumstances denied them such opportunities.
He also called on South Africans to guard against forces that seek to undermine national unity. In the past, he said the country’s common enemy was apartheid, and the enemy today is unemployment, GBV, corruption, and alcohol and drug abuse.
