The MTN 8 champions Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the signing of South Africa’s U20 captain, affectionately known as Amajita Lazola Maku, on a free transfer.
The SA U20 skipper had been linked with Sundowns, it’s no surprise to see him join the Chloorkop-based outfit.
Maku racked up five appearances in the first team for Siwelele FC, having been part of the rebrand from SuperSport United.
On Tuesday 20 October 2026, Sundowns made the official announcement of Maku’s signing.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are pleased to announce the signing of Lazola Maku! Yellow Nation, let’s give the youngster a proper welcome. New colours, new chapter, same ambition. Welcome to Bafana Ba Style, Lazola,” reads the club’s statement.
Maku arrives at Chloorkop with an impressive CV that belies his young age, having already tasted significant success on the continental stage.
He was a pivotal figure under the guidance of head coach Raymond Mdaka during Amajita’s historic Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The acquisition of Maku is part of a broader strategy at Sundowns to integrate the best domestic talent into their star-studded roster. The midfield general had been linked with potential moves abroad following his stellar youth international performances.
