The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court granted former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson and ex-deputy head of SAPS Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan R10 000 bail.
The duo appeared in Pretoria Magistrate Court on Friday, 30 October 2026.
Both face charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and defeating the administration of justice. Johnson is charged as an accessory after the fact in the alleged assault.
Crime Intelligence Officer Manana Leonora Phetlhe opened a case of harassment and assault against Khan in June 2018.
Johnson also faces a charge of contravening the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act 23 of 1998.
At the time, She was serving as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions at the Pretoria office, while Khan held the rank of major-general and was attached to SAPS Crime Intelligence in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria.
The state alleges that Khan submitted the warning statement to the investigating officer on 5 July 2018 before investigators submitted the docket to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for guidance and decision.
“This prompted an investigation into how Khan was able to submit the warning statement prior to the NPA receiving the docket,” NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said.
“Investigations into the matter revealed that Johnson, without the permission of the National Director of Public Prosecutions, allegedly disclosed information to Khan, and they both acted in common purpose to hinder prosecution against Khan, added Kganyago.”
The state did not oppose their release on bail, citing that they were not flight risks and that their residential addresses had been confirmed.
Johnson was ordered to surrender her passport to the investigating officer by November 4. The matter has been postponed to 2 February 2027 for further investigations.
Allegations have been made that Khan, Johnson, and several others – including Idac senior investigator Brian Padayachee – formed part of a coordinated group described as an “Indian Cabal” within law enforcement structures, purportedly working together to advance their own interests while targeting certain individuals.
