10 dead, 24 injured in R42 truck and taxi collision in Delmas, Mpumalanga.

Ten people have been killed and 24 others were seriously injured in a collision involving a minibus taxi and a bus truck on the R42 Road near Delmas, Mpumalanga.

Mpumalanga Community Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said: “There was a minibus taxi with a Mozambican registration travelling from Johannesburg. It is believed that the taxi may have been headed to Mozambique.”

There was an intersection and that was when the taxi collided with a bus-truck that was travelling on the R42 headed towards Bronkhorstspruit. As a result, 10 people were declared dead on the scene while 24 others sustained serious injuries,” Mmusi said.

“The injured were transported to a nearby hospital. It is not known at this stage what caused the crash. An investigation is already underway.”

The accident happened around 1am.

MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, has sent condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.

“It is sad to see so many people losing their lives on the road. We are appealing for greater caution on the part of drivers to avoid these tragedies,” Macie said.
