Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has strongly condemned the gruesome shooting of the siblings and called for swift action to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice.
The gruesome shooting of four siblings took place in Block P, Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.
“We strongly condemn this heinous act of mass murder. We call on the law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Lesufi said.
“The Gauteng government reiterates its unwavering commitment to support and strengthen all local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.”
The names of the deceased are Mpho Kgobotlo (30), a constable who was stationed at OR Tambo Police Station, Phomolo Malakapatlo (28), Thandi Dlamini (34), and 14-year-old Vuyolethu Ziwela from Soshanguve.
According to reports, the suspects were armed with rifles and wore black bulletproof vests when they attacked.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said no suspects have been arrested as yet.
“On the early hours of 01 Jaunary 2024, the police attended to a shooting incident at Soshanguve where they found four people with gunshot wounds on the street. Amongst the victims there is a 14-year-old teenage girl. The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown at this stage.”
“The police request anyone who may have information that can assist with the investigation to contact the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously report tip-offs on MySapsApp,” Nevhuhulwi said.
Lesufi will visit the crime scene and the bereaved families today to express his sympathy.
