The GOOD Party has announced that it has suspended Peter de Villiers from all party activities after receiving a complaint of sexual misconduct from a member.
Secretary-general Brett Herron said: “GOOD’s constitution is unambiguous on gender relations and gender-based violence. The constitution applies to all members, regardless of position.”
Herron said De Villiers’ suspension “is not a finding of guilt, [but] reflects the seriousness of the allegations”.
“The party will implement disciplinary processes to determine if the provisions of its constitution have been breached.
“Given the sensitive nature of the allegations, the party will, for now, be making no further comment on the matter,” Herron concluded in a brief media statement.
The former coach had a lengthy career as a teacher before making the move to become a full-time rugby administrator.
He has spent the last two years serving his community as a GOOD councillor and caucus leader in the Drakenstein Municipality.
The coach is known in his community and led GOOD’s campaign in the 2021 local government elections in Drakenstein. This saw the party obtain four seats in the council.
