The ‘kidnapped’ City Power technician who went missing after an armed hijacking ordeal in Lenasia, South of Johannesburg has been found safe.
Three City Power technicians came under attack on Wednesday, leading to one of them being kidnapped by the hijackers during the ordeal.
Spokesperson Isaac said, “The City Power technician has been found, unharmed, and is receiving counselling, following the traumatic experience he suffered from the hijacking.”
Mangena added if attacks on their technicians continue, they will not hesitate to terminate their services in ‘dangerous areas’.
“The two colleagues he was with are also receiving counselling. We cannot provide further details on the matter as it is now being handled by the police.
“The vehicle they travelled in was also found in Lawley, at an informal settlement called Kokotela. It was stripped.
“When our teams are being threatened, the residents will suffer with electricity as we will not be able to respond to some of the incidents reported in those areas.”
“The battle against such criminal acts can be won when communities join forces with City Power and law enforcement agencies,” he said.
City Power chief executive Tshifularo Mashava said City Power was currently conducting a safety assessment to determine if it was safe for employees to conduct their work in the area.
Also at the weekend, the Joburg Emergency Management Services sent a warning to members of the public after three firefighters were pelted with stones while responding to a fire in Eldorado Park.
