President Cyril Ramaphosa called a special cabinet meeting on Monday evening as the country awaits his announcement of the much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle.
We understand the meeting will finalise regulations for the energy state of disaster and it is scheduled for 10pm.
Ramaphosa has also called a special President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) meeting consisting of ministers, premiers, executive mayors of metropolitan municipalities, and the leadership of the South African Local Government Association (Salga).
Acting Cabinet spokesperson, Michael Currin said while he has not seen the specific agenda for the meeting, the ongoing energy crisis will be part of the discussion.
The meeting comes just days after former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter made explosive allegations against a high-level politician in the ANC.
De Ruyter, among other things, made shocking allegations against a high-level politician and that the governing ANC is benefitting from the corruption at Eskom.
The meeting also comes as the President is expected to announce the change in his cabinet.
The reshuffle could see a host of senior ministers leaving the executive after failing to secure a seat on the ANC’s 80-member NEC during the December national conference.
This includes Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan, Employment and Labour Minister, Thulas Nxesi, International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Naledi Pandor, and Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa.
Ramaphosa has already met ANC alliance leaders from the South African Communist Party and union federation Cosatu.
