Season 3 of Betway SA20 has confirmed the tournament’s status as South Africa’s premier T20 cricket league, with record-breaking achievements across broadcast, attendance, and digital engagement.
A remarkable 70% increase in sold-out matches, culminating in a third consecutive sold-out final, made this the best-attended season yet. Over 400,000 fans attended matches nationwide, with Newlands becoming the first venue to sell out all five home games. The League also celebrated its one-millionth ticket sale during the clash between Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
According to Nielsen Sports SA, SuperSport viewership rose by 47%, while the final saw a 72% increase from Season 2. Globally, audience numbers grew by 37%, with strong interest from India, the UK, the US, and Africa.
The League’s digital footprint expanded rapidly, including a 62% rise in followers, a 93% increase in video views, and a 233% spike in website traffic. Media value also soared — up 30% in South Africa and 96% in India, alongside a 231% increase in print coverage.
Commissioner Graeme Smith hailed the season as a “game-changer,” crediting fans, partners, players, and broadcasters for making SA20 one of the country’s leading sports brands.
Youth development remained central to the League’s mission. Twenty-six young professionals joined the tournament delivery team through learnerships, while R630,000 was raised for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The new Schools SA20 competition engaged over 600 schools, with Steyn City School and Bishops Diocesan College crowned inaugural champions. Scholarships were awarded to two promising Grade 7 cricketers.
Season 4 will begin on 26 December 2025, promising another exciting chapter in the League’s evolution, with fixture announcements and player updates to follow.
