South Africa’s three Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) quarterfinalists are bracing for their most significant challenge of the season as the knockout stages of the prestigious cross-hemisphere tournament take centre stage this weekend.
The DHL Stormers, Vodacom Bulls, and Hollywoodbets Sharks are all within striking distance of the semi-finals—but must first overcome formidable opponents in what promises to be a thrilling weekend of high-stakes rugby.
Stormers Face the Champions in Glasgow
Of the trio, the Stormers arguably have the toughest task, facing reigning champions Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday evening. The Capetonians, who have lost their last three encounters against the Scottish outfit, will be desperate to turn the tide and avenge their defeat earlier this season at the DHL Stadium.
John Dobson’s men do, however, arrive in Glasgow with momentum on their side, having won four consecutive matches to close out the pool stages. In contrast, Glasgow come into the fixture on the back of three straight defeats, though their home record remains imposing, with seven wins from nine matches this season.
Statistically, the two sides are closely matched: Glasgow have one more win than the Stormers, but the South Africans boast a superior attacking record, having scored 39 more points across the pool stages. Glasgow, however, hold the second-best defensive record in the competition, conceding 17 fewer tries than the Stormers. A fierce contest awaits, where discipline and conversion of chances will be crucial.

Bulls Eye Redemption and Home Advantage in Pretoria
The Vodacom Bulls will be hoping to harness their Loftus Versfeld fortress when they host Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon. Jake White’s men, beaten finalists in 2022 and 2024, are seeking to reach the Grand Final once again—and a victory this weekend will secure them a home semi-final.
The Pretoria side have enjoyed a rich vein of form, winning their last seven URC fixtures and suffering only four defeats all season. They edged Edinburgh 22-16 earlier in the campaign, but will be wary of the Scots, who reversed that result in the EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a thrilling 34-28 win.
Edinburgh have shown resilience of late, losing just once in their last five outings, including a narrow one-point defeat to the Sharks in Durban. However, their away form remains patchy—six losses from nine away matches this season—while the Bulls have dropped only one game at Loftus in the entire URC campaign. With a better record both in attack and defence, the Bulls will start as favourites, but cannot afford complacency.

Sharks Prepare for Irish Onslaught in Durban
In Durban, the Hollywoodbets Sharks will be chasing history as they attempt to reach their first-ever URC semi-final. Standing in their way are 2023 champions Munster, who may have finished sixth on the log but remain one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.
The Sharks, who finished third, have lost just once at home this season. However, recent performances have been unconvincing. They laboured to a 12-3 win over the Scarlets and needed a second-half revival to dispatch Ospreys the week before.
Munster bring playoff pedigree and a slightly more potent attacking record into the contest. The Sharks, however, edge them defensively, which could prove decisive in what is expected to be a tense and tactical encounter at Kings Park on Saturday evening.
